Rippin Chix Steep and Deep Skiing Camps are no-frills affordable steep skiing/adventure/powder clinics for real girl and women skiers. Learn air, straight lines, pillows, chutes, powder, trees, crud, roots, rocks, moguls, ice, bumps, and jump-turns with our unique teaching methods. Expand your comfort zones, build a new skills toolbox, while developing new confidence in all the yucky stuff. While we can never guarantee a powder camp, Red is the most likely Rippin Chix camp to have great snow for you to improve your powder skills and discover how to make pillows graceful, fun and effortless.
This special steeps camp will be located at one of our favorite resorts worldwide, at award-winning Red Mountain Resort right near our favorite ski town – Rossland, BC Canada. Known for its legendary and usually abundant British Columbia powder, Red Mountain is a real skiers dream with extensive extra steep-steeps, plentiful forgiving pillows, and evenly spaced especially steep trees. There is none of the icky tacky glitz that has overtaken many resorts, instead pristine terrain, great food, and an ideal affordable skier’s vacation. Rossland and Red Mountain are easily accessible with affordable flights into Spokane, USA and a short drive across the border. Please do not fly into Caslegar, as we affectionately call it “Cancel-gar”. Flights are best into Spokane, USA then a commute up north, about 3 hrs – either by by teaming up with other campers to rent a car or take the lovely shuttle. There is a free local bus from town to the ski area or you can stay slope side.
Expert Champion Free-skiing women coaches and video analysis will have you conquering your fears and expanding your comfort zones with our unique and unconventional baby-step skills progressions. This camp is about as far from traditional lesson as one can get! We uses terms such as “pushing the bush”, “serving the martinis” and “squeezing the thong”. It may not be PC, but you won’t find yourself forgetting your new ways to master the steeps. Progressions are taught with our unique non-intimidating baby-steps for all the scary stuff, such how to catch air five different ways, how to ski faster/bigger turns how to straight-line, how to jump turn in tight places, how to schmear and slarve to scrub speed, how to save energy, and how to tackle those yucky double-black entrances.
New for 2018 Rippin Chix Blue to Black Camp. Are you ready for that big jump to black runs, but not ready for a Steep and Deep Camp. Do you lack confidence and the know how to get through those sketchy sections? This new level is for ladies who want to transition to black runs, who are comfortable on steeper blue runs and some of the easier short black runs. Are you a bored just cruising those blue runs around the mountain and ready for a challenge, let us help you over your fear and panic when you see that sign with the BIG black diamond on it. Our champion coaches will help you gain new skills building confidence in your ability to master those once terrifying steeps. This is a camp where you will be coached. It’s not a typical ski school experience so be prepared to be pushed past your perceived limits, no coddling here. We guarantee you a new way to see the mountain, a few Adrenalin rushes, the challenge of learning something new and huge smiles of accomplishment as we open a new world of confidence in your skiing.
Alpine, Telemark, or AT skiers are welcome. Ratios are never more than 6:1 and most camps are 12 gals maximum (Blue to Black camp will be limited to 6 skiers in 2018). Find out if you meet our minimum Steep and Deep requirements HERE. While your turns do not have to be pretty or confident, this should not be your first try at skiing off a groomed run. Ski fitness is important for this camp, as the vertical on the mountain is 3,000 feet. Do remember that this is a camp, and we will stop often to practice technique and do drills.
The Lower Steep and Deep group must be able to make ten consecutive turns on an ungroomed single black diamond and the Upper Steep and Deep group should be able to make ten turns on an ungroomed double black diamond. Blue to Black Campers should be able to ski a blue run top to bottom with confidence and should be able to pick their way down a short black run linking a couple turns here and there.
Red Mountain is infamous for its pillows, powder, steeps, trees and all the fun stuff – the perfect place to learn our tips and tricks. Ski fitness is a must for this camp – be ready to ski 3,000 foot long runs in powder, crud, trees and rocks all day long for two days in a row. While this is a camp to learn these things, you should have prior experience in ungroomed terrain – powder, crud, etc. Do note that a black run on Red Mountain is often steeper than the double blacks at an area like Vail. You may choose the lower or upper level Steep and Deep Camp based upon your confidence and skills on the first day of the camp. Blue to Black Camps will mostly be held on groomed slopes and depending on the desires of the group may venture onto some steeper runs and play in the powder or moguls along the edge of the groomed slopes.
There will be opportunity to upgrade from the Blue to Black Camp (for a fee due to price difference) to the lower Steep and Deep Camp if you are out skiing the Blue to Black Camp and the coaches feel that you’d be successful at the higher level camp. Also Steep and Deep Campers who find themselves over their head may down grade (sorry no refund) to the Blue to Black Camp.
This 2-day camp includes two full days of coaching and video analysis (weather dependent). Guaranteed to change your life and/or skiing or your money will be refunded.
All Rippin Chix Camps are non-refundable and non-transferable, no matter the circumstance. We therefore highly recommend trip insurance.
